The home club were formed in 1949 by John Dennett, who at the age of 97 still lives in a house within the ground’s perimeter. Ashville, who have only previously won the League once before, drew this game 0-0, watched by a crowd of 70 spectators, to remain one point ahead of rivals Mersey Royal at the top of the table, in what will be their last season before being promoted to the North West Counties League after their facilities were approved.
