Non-League Curzon Ashton's Tameside Stadium, Ashton-under-Lyne was the venue for this FA Cup first round tie against Exeter City. The home team, who played in the Unibond first division north won the match 3-2 against their opponents from Coca Cola League 2, four divisions above Curzon Ashton. It was the home side's first-ever appearance in the FA Cup proper and their reward for winning the match was an away tie at Conference team Kidderminster Harriers. Photos by Colin McPherson.

The visitors won the match by 2 goals to nil to stay in contention for a place at the European football championships which were to be held in Switzerland and Austria in the Summer of 2008. 22 images16.09.2008 Leek, England. The players of Leek Town entertain Clitheroe in an FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round replay at Harrison Park, Leek. The first match ended in a one-all draw but it was Clitheroe who progressed to the next round winning the replay one-nil, despite having a man sent off in the second half. The preliminary stages of the FA Cup were used to determine which non-League clubs were included in the first round proper of the FA Cup. Photos by Colin McPherson.

Several thousand fans of the German club made the trip to manchester to see their side progress to an all-German semi-final with Werder Bremen. Although Hamburg lost 2-1 in Manchester they went through 4-3 on aggregate after winning last week's first-leg 3-1. Photos by Colin McPherson.

35 imagesThe Scottish Junior season gets under way with matches at Pollok in Glasgow's South Side, Kirkintilloch's historic old ground and the West Lothian giants Linlithgow Rose. All these clubs eventually became part of the Senior game in Scotland and joined the pyramid system. Stockport County were promoted up to league One following a play-off final victory over Rochdale at Wembley in May, 2008. In 2012 they were relegated to league one, in 2017 they were relegated to League Two, and promoted back to League One in 2018, against a backdrop of ownership disputes and ground shares.
