Carlisle United 1 Newcastle United 1, 21/07/2007. Brunton Park, Pre-season Friendly. The match ended one goal each with Newcastle equalising Danny Livesey's opener through Nolberto Solano in the last minute. Everton 3 Larissa 1, 25/10/2007. Goodison Park, Europa League Group A. A UEFA Cup Group A match between Everton and AE Larissa of Greece. Everton beat the Greek team by three goals to one on the opening night of group matches in the UEFA Cup. It was the first meeting between the two clubs. Photos by Colin McPherson.

Action from the Four Nations Semi-Professional Tournament staged in Wales. The tournament was established in 2002 and was held on an annual basis featuring teams from England, Scotland and Wales and an invited team, on this occasion Gibraltar. The tournament is hosted on a rotational basis and in 2008 games were staged at Colwyn Bay FC, Rhyl FC and The New Saints ground in Oswestry. Photos by Colin McPherson.

Hull City 3 Preston North End 0, 10/11/2007. KC Stadium, Championship. On one hand, a team from a much derided city with a sparkling stadium seemingly on the up. The other, historically rich perennial play-off contenders suffering a dreadful start. Hull finished 3rd and were promoted to the Premier League after beating Watford in the play semi final, and Bristol City in the final. Preston finished 15th. Photos by Paul Thompson.

Leicester City 1 Queens Park Rangers 1, 15/09/2007. Walkers Stadium, Championship. Leicester City (blue) taking on Queen's Park Rangers in a Coca-Cola Championship match at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester. It was Gary Megson's first game in charge of the home team since his appointment two days earlier. The match ended one-all, QPR equalising in the last minute through Mikele Leigertwood after the Foxes had score through an Iain Hume penalty. Photos by Colin McPherson.

Middelsbrough went into the game as firm favourites against Championship team Cardiff. However they failed to perform and deservedly lost 0-2. Cardiff lost 0-1 to Portsmouth in the FA Cup Final. Middlesbrough were relegated from the Premier League the following season.

Queen's Park 1 Alloa Athletic 0, 01/12/2007. Hampden Park, Scottish League Two. Hampden Park, Glasgow, home to Queen's Park and Scotland pictured prior to the amateur team's fixture against Alloa Athletic in a Scottish League second division match. The home team won by one goal to nil with a goal by Alan Trouten in the 88th minute. Queen's Park, founded in1867, are currently trying to become only the third FIFA Order of Merit club after Real Madrid and Sheffield FC. Photos by Colin McPherson.

Stoke City beat Bristol City 2-1 on their way to 2nd place in the Championship and promotion to the Premier League. Managed by Tony Pulis, their style of football wasn't to everyone's taste. Stoke stayed in the Premier League for 10 years before relegation in 2018. Bristol City finished 4th, and lost to play off final to Hull City.

Workington AFC 0 Boston United 1, 24/02/2008. Borough Park, Blue Square North. The Blue Square North fixture between hosts Workington AFC (red) and Boston United at Borough Park. The visitors won with a solitary sixth-minute goal by Jon Rowan in front of 388 spectators. Both Workington AFC and Boston United were members of the Football League, the Cumbrians losing League status in 1977 while the Lincolnshire club were relegated in 2007 and demoted two divisions for financial irregularities.
