Bangor City 0 FC Honka 1, 23/07/2009. Racecourse Ground, Europa League. Bangor City host FC Honka from Finland at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, in a Europa League second round second leg tie. The match had to be staged away from City's Farrar Road ground as it did not meet UEFA's stadium standards. The Finns won 1-0 in Wales to go through 3-0 on aggregate in front of 602 spectators in the first season of the newly-introduced competition which replaced the UEFA Cup. Photos by Colin McPherson.

A league Cup tie between Barnsley and Manchester United at Oakwell in front of 20,019 fans. Manchester United won 2-0 with goals from Welbeck and Michael Owen. Gary Neville was sent, and away fans caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. United won the triphy by beating Spurs, Manchester City, and Aston Villa, in the final. Barnsley finished 18th in the Championship.

Bradford Park Avenue v Bishop Auckland, FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round, Horsfall Stadium; 12th September 2009. Park Avenue won 4-1. Park Avenue finished the season 2nd in the Northern Premier League premier Division. They beat Harrogate in the 2nd Qualifying Round, before losing a 3rd Qualifying Round replay to Buxton. Bishop Auckland finished 13th in Northern League Division One.

League Cup Semi Final Second Leg, Turf Moor. Trailing 1-4 from the first leg, Burnley won 3-0 to force extra time before conceding goals in the 118th and 120th minute. The match was played in a torrential downpour. Spurs lost the final 4-1 on penalties to Manchester United after 2 hours of goaless football.

Cowdenbeath 0 Dundee 3, 18/08/2009. Central Park, Alba Challenge Cup. The visitors won by 3 goals to nil. The Challenge Cup is open to all Scottish League clubs. Hertha Berlin 1 Sporting Lisbon 0, 16/12/2010. Olympic Stadium, Europa League. Hertha Berlin take on Sporting Lisbon at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. Hertha won the match by 1 goal to nil to press to the knock-out round of the cup. 2009/10 was the the first year in which the Europa League replaced the UEFA Cup in European football competition. Richmond Academy 6 Buck Inn Broncos 2, 21/11/2009. Wensleydale Creamery League. A game played in pouring rain on Richmond's ground, overlooked by Richmond Castle. Richmond were 0-2 down with 30 mins left. The game was played in pouring rain, and became very heated. The referee sent off a player from the away team, and became involved in a confrontation with away players after the match. He resigned from refereeing after this game. Photos by Paul Thompson

A decider for the last play off place between Scunthorpe and Tranmere on the last day of the League One season. Tranmere needed to win to leapfrog Scunthorpe, while a draw would do for the home team. Tranmere scored first, but Scunthorpe Captain Cliff Byrne equlaised with 2 minutes left. Scunthorpe beat MK Dons in the play off semi final, and Millwall in the final.

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Crystal Palace 2, 02/05/2010. Hillsborough. Championship. A do-or-die, last-day relegation match between Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace. The match ended in a 2-2 draw which meant Wednesday were relegated to League 1.
